About Us

Lead by Social Impact

At Neighbourhood Furniture CIC, we believe everyone deserves a dignified, comfortable home — especially when starting over.

We provide free and affordable furniture to individuals and families in need, with a focus on survivors of domestic abuse. Working closely with local charities, we ensure our support reaches those who need it most.

Our profits don’t go to shareholders — they fuel our mission. Every purchase helps us furnish lives, not just rooms.

Who We Are

Neighbourhood Furniture was founded in 2024 by Andy Taylor, a maker with over 15 years of experience in high-volume manufacturing for some of the world’s largest companies.

Prior to starting Neighbourhood Furniture, Andy established a shared workshop in Manchester to help independent makers cope with rising rent costs, and led accessible community woodwork classes.

Proudly based in Halifax, West Yorkshire, we're a socially driven company rethinking how furniture is made, sold, and shared — with a deep focus on customer service, affordability, and impact.

Why We Exist

Furniture shapes how we live, connect, and thrive — but for too many in the UK, it’s become a luxury. Only 2% of social housing is furnished, and the cost of furniture has increased by 40% over the past decade, leading to what’s now known as furniture poverty (End Furniture Poverty, 2022).

Yet the benefits of a fully furnished home are clear:

Safety & Stability

Children are more likely to stay home in comfortable surroundings, increasing parental supervision and reducing antisocial behaviour.

Social Inclusion

Research shows that receiving furniture helps people feel proud of their space, making them more likely to invite friends and family over, reducing isolation (PMC, 2022).

Long-Term Impact

A secure living environment supports people in achieving life goals, including employment, education, and personal wellbeing. Studies link well-furnished, supportive environments with improved job performance and satisfaction (Berto, 2005; Korpela et al., 2015; Nejati et al., 2016).

What We Stand For

We’re here to challenge the status quo. Tired of overpriced designer furniture, we aim to deliver affordable, beautifully simple pieces in a variety of colours that suit real-life homes.

We believe in:

Redistributing profits for good

Creating fair jobs with decent pay

Designing for repairability and longevity

Raising the standard of customer service
